After weeks of build up, hours of pandemonium, and hundreds upon hundreds of viewers later, Goop Fest has come and gone in the blink of an eye. Goop Fest was born from the bubbling h-word scene discord server, Goop House (not at liberty to extend any invites, sorry). In the server, users can take part in a monthly challenge where they are given cover art and asked to make a song inspired by the art. Users can either go rogue or jump to the different channels on the chat to work out collaboration. Once the challenges are announced, the users have a week to submit their work. Per the Goop House Soundcloud, it looks like the first compilation was released in the Spring of 2021. Shirin, the founder of the GH server, saw a lot of potential in the collaborative and supportive nature of the challenges, and within a few short months, had their eyes set on something much bigger, Goop Fest. Being that Goop House was started with foundations of mutual support, community, and creativity, Shirin wanted to incorporate a less traditional flow for the URL festival. With hopes of drawing attention to all of the artists on the Goop Fest lineup, the event was broken into segments with three opening performers, and then a headliner, per each “batch” of artists.
There were multiple appearances by John Cena, a lot of video game footage, a set from 1833’s NOTKHALED, and a lot of sensory overload but in the most positive way.
