OnGaud’s SolarFive delivers on his second full length project 88 Soul. He’s described this release as his heart and soul. I’ve been listening to it pretty much since it came out yesterday and his deep and honest sounding voice has gravitas no matter what he’s rapping about, from 88 souls & blues on one of my favorite tracks “Amethyst” to what it takes to get paid on “YNGP” which features Speedy Calhoun, and says “Started losing feeling, now I’m cold hearted, no heart, I’m so heartless, no love.” CHI VII handles production on half the tracks, OnGaud & AmbI Lyrics each produced two and he brought in Dougy, Sev Seveer and Benny Nice for the rest. Additional features are from Chicago heavyweights Mick Jenkins, Defcee, Nhyla and Angel Davanport. “Send Regards” is another stand out track for me. Spend some time with 88 Soul, it’s worth it.
