What happens when you take a Brooklyn-based producer and multi-instrumentalist named OJI and pair that with the production and mixing genius of Puerto Rico-native Volta? Well, you get OJI x VOLTA and a pretty wild remix of a song you can’t go an hour without hearing on top-40 radio. Jidenna’s Classic Man has been everywhere for months with what looks like no plans of going away any time soon (also – throwing Kendrick Lamar on your remix isn’t a bad look at all). So after a few months of radio-play what is a label like Epic Records to do to keep the single on rotation in the blogosphere and trending on the charts of SoundCloud? Find a producer(s) to do an official remix, duh! OxV was summoned to put their unique spin on the insanely popular record, and yesterday the duo dropped that off for the rest of the world to hear. The drop, as I believe the kids are calling it these days, is in laymen’s terms “awesome”, and the different styles of OJI and Volta are clearly evident as this record is 3:20 of nothing but the interlacing of various techniques. I spoke with the group’s publicist a bit, and it’s safe to say that OJI x VOLTA have a lot in store for the rest of 2015.
