Sampling and more recently remixing have been a big part of the rap game, can you tell us a little about your production methods and how you got into making music?
It all depends. Sampling is easy as hell. If I got a good sample I’m knocking that beat out within 30 minutes. If I’m starting from scratch with pads and pianos and synths and all that good shit, then it’ll take a minute. I focus on my melodies more than anything else in the beat. If the melody doesn’t make me feel a certain way then the beat is wack off top and I have to start over.
How do you manage your creative blocks?
I listen to the music that made me want to start producing and I listen to the music that kind of molded the way my music sounds today. Kind of like a “going back to your roots” type thing.
What rappers in the game are you connecting with the most right now?
My Divine Council niggas, Asap Ant, he’s a really cool guy, and a few that I dont even think I’m supposed to name right now.
What about producers?
Misogi, Black Youth, PLUSTX, LSDXOXO, and Darth Joom.
What sources of inspiration do you draw from for your production work (tv shows, movies, visual art, music, instagrams, articles, books)
I really didn’t wanna give this up but shit, there’s this weird ass side of youtube with all this wild creative shit and one specifically is called PaperRad. I love shit like that so much. It’s a bunch of others too but ima let you niggas search for those. Also Shaye Saint John is awesome. And porn. That’s about it.
What is the most meaningful interaction you’ve had with a fan of your music?
Back in February I dropped a project called “Dior Junts” and this girl told me that the day she was planning to kill herself, she heard it and it made her happy for the first time in months and she just couldn’t stop crying and then she decided not to go through with it. I don’t know what in the tape made her not want to go through with it but I’m honestly glad that I kind of saved her life. I still stay in contact with her every now and then to make sure she’s all good. Sweet girl.
Damn, ok well…What is the Divine Council to you and why are you a member?
Divine Council is a collective of really talented artist from VA and Chicago consisting of Lord Linco, $ilkMoney, Cyrax!, She Skin, And myself.
I’m a part of Divine Council because it makes me feel at home. Besides all the music shit -it’s really a family and I love it.
