Goldlink, part of the new wave of rappers residing from the DMV (i.e Fat Trel, Shy Glizzy, and Young Moe), dropped a new track called “New Black.” More than just a catchy dance track, this song plunges into the complex issues that faces the black community – which is part of the reason I’ve had this song on steady rotation since yesterday. The whole song will give you goosebumps, one of the best lines being “Five, Six, Seven, Eight, Keep your hands high, don’t shoot, don’t discriminate.” It’s always great to see musicians use their art as a voice of the troubles facing our society.
We’ve been waiting for another project since The God Complex, so you can bet I’ll be twiddling my thumbs until “And after that, we didn’t talk” drops on November 6th.
Check out Goldlink’s “New Black” below, and get inspired to speak your own mind about something that’s been pissing you off.
