Columbia College Chicago student Evan Spacey has an interesting presence on his various pages with blurred out photos and oddly named tracks so it’s only fitting that his music have a mysterious vibe to it as well. His new track “i woke up today and my toes were freezing” starts off with an eerie little synth with the sound of water dripping, as the song progresses a chopped up vocal sample pulsates in and out of the mix like a flickering firefly in a dark cavern. As the sample continues to expand the kicks hit and we are met with a vibrating baseline, the song is building like a great storyteller telling a story and then BOOM the full drums drop and you’re left with no choice but to fly off into some dark, ambient club where everyone is going wild. Spacey also dropped a recent EP entitled “Old + New” which you can check out here. We’ll be on the lookout for more and keep an eye on how young Spaceys career takes shape and identity moving forward.
