If you’re unaware of the music coming out of Evanston Illinois these days, I want to catch you up really quick. One of the VIPs is Kweku Collins, who is emerging as a part of the Closed Sessions Record label, but there are certainly others. DJKG, aka Dylan Gephart, is one of the founders of TDS Collective, which is the group that Kweku originated from. Dylan is also a local producer prodigy.
One of my favorite songs that DJKG has come out with recently is called Coffee, which he worked on with an east coast producer names MAM.
The song starts out with heavy guitar and synth and I feel like I’m on a journey back in time. Maybe I’ve been watching too much Rick and Morty lately, but this song transports you straight into the 1980’s. It’s like you’re sitting in the little diner down the street, bobbing your head as you drink your morning cup of coffee. The diner has an old jukebox in it, but it only plays Journey and Aerosmith songs on repeat. Even in it’s short minute-and-a-half time span, this song has got all of the drama and intensity of an 80’s glam rock band.
Check out the full song above, and be sure to follow up with DJKG for future sounds.
