Fresh off the birth of his baby boy, Black Zheep DZ serves up some sauce. DZ has been making noise in Charm City for a long time. The Baltimore native has gotten looks from some of the DMV’s brightest (D.R.A.M., A$AP Ant, Goldlink), an official Soulection release with Lakim, and a collaboration with Denzel Curry. Zheep continues to build steam with the latest release of his mixtape Mirror, Mirror which showcases his ability to control an entire body of work to himself. The production value on this joint is up to par with major label releases. D.K. The Punisher (Bieber x Chance’s “Confident”), The Beat Brigade, JUDGE, and Rvdical the Kid plus the rest of the assembly bring some extreme heat. Another Baltimore rising artist, Flash Giordani, provides an extremely emotional hook on the record No Matter What. Butch Dawson also delivers one of my personal favorite hooks this year over On It which he also produced.
Just going off top, Ice Hot has been a personal favorite from DZ for a while now (as it was the lead single), but Bueno and I.D.E.C. ride out very nicely. Baltimore, and the DMV alike, are poised to blow this last half of 2015 and should take some serious momentum into 2016 (that looks so futuristic, right?), and DZ is setting himself up to be a front-runner in the pack.
