After all of the previews this summer, it’s finally here. Mensa’s solo debut mixtape is 14 tracks of gold both lyrically and production-wise (thanks to Peter Cottontale and Cam Osteen). The Save Money wunderkind teams up with prodigious crew member Chance The Rapper on “Tweakin,” a witty back-and-forth about smokin’/sippin’/trippin’ out (as the title suggests). Save Money’s Joey Purp and Kenna make a guest appearance on “Fear & Doubt,” while Ab-Soul and BJ The Chicago Kid can be heard on “Holy Holy,” both about the future’s uncertainty, life’s what-ifs, and coping with tragedy. Other features include Chicago’s own Rockie Fresh, Brainfeeder powerhouse Thundercat, UK songstress Eliza Doolittle, and R&B crooner Jesse Boykins III, also from the Chi.
This tape delivers in every aspect, and Vic’s work is definitely paying off. It’s already made the innanet rounds, receiving critical acclaim and showing plenty of promise for the young emcee’s come-up. Catch Yung Net on the “What Dreams May Come” tour opening up for J. Cole and Wale if you missed his performance at Saturday’s #ILLANET party. Download #INNANETAPE here. :space_invader: :vhs:
