The Dutchmmaster of The New Deal Crew dropped off his video to “Get My $ Right” today which is a slurred Schoolboy Q influenced joint that is perfect for raising a glass… of codeine. Parts of the video are shot in a horse and carriage showing the high class ethos of The Dutchmaster. He impressively wrote and recorded the song himself and even helped with direction on the video – a true DIY man. The song is off Dutchmasters “Roscoe Oconto” project which is out now! Read below for a few answers from the Dutchman himself on how the video and song came about:
What was the concept for the video to your “Get My $ Right” video?
-The concept for this video grew out of just wanting to do something a little within the norm but also have my own little twist on it. I’m riding in the back of a horse-drawn carriage smoking a cigar for the most part, kind of a sort of scummy opulence if you will. Basically for this one Josh Martin, the director helped organize the shoot and set everything up and then we kind of went back and forth on the edits until we got the product we were looking for. There also is a little horse winny in the background which brings the whole carriage thing back around.
How did it reflect what you’re doing today as an artist?
-I’m getting my money right, trying at least. So this video and song kind of embodied that attempt to push forward with your music while also keeping bills paid and whatnot, and a little beyond that. It’s also one of the singles off of Roscoe Oconto which dropped in August, so in that sense it’s keeping up with the kind of music I’ve been delivering as of late.
Where do you see yourself fitting in the game? to rephrase in 5 years what are you doing?
-I see myself as someone who is making a living giving off of music one way or another five years from now, that’s the goal and possibly a homeowner. As far as how I fit in the game, I fit smack dab in the middle.
