God bless 1833 for introducing me to the powers of HypeMachine. Obviously, it’s a platform that I had used a few times, but I hadn’t actually taken the time to create a profile and really dig in until I had noticed that all of the songs I was posting were feeding through it. Today’s shuffling led me to an artist simply known as Stephen and his first single in a couple of years – Remembering Myself. As noted, Stephen has been a relative scholar of music since his debut smash Bullet Train (worth noting that Bullet Train has accrued over 100 million streams) – taking the time to learn the ins and outs of music theory, singing, and songwriting. Remembering Myself, which premiered today via ThisSongIsSick, seems to be an open letter of sorts outlining the existential struggles that most of us endure in our 20s with attempting to chase our dreams without losing the hallmarks of our character. Trying to remain true to himself, while tirelessly pursuing a life-long dream, is the battle Stephen is spilling his heart into over the 3:30 blend of Future Bass and R&B guitar. If this is any sign of what is to come, I’m sure that we will all be “remembering” Stephen as an artist to reckon with in the not-so-distant future.
