I’ve never become so thoroughly engrossed in someone’s music quicker than when LiL PEEP finally clicked for me the other week. Not only are his singing voice and sense of melody at a high enough level to excel in the underground scene, but so are his lyrics and song structures, which indicates a level of polish that is rare for such a fresh new talent. His song “Haunt U” in particular flows and progresses so smoothly from section to section that it sounds like it could have been written for a major label release, possibly for the type of artist the instrumental was sampled from in the first place. If PEEP isn’t firmly cemented as the underground’s go-to hook by the end of 2016, then the scene will have missed out many potentially classic tracks for it.
