Believe it or not, Massachusetts isn’t the only New England state with an interesting hip-hop scene going on either. As a matter of fact, Connecticut, and two artists in particular, Tedy Brewski and Lonny X, are making bar-driven rap with enough vocal eccentricity to keep things interesting. Brewski’s latest release specifically, “Wipeout Mixtape Vol. 2”, has a track called “Pop Rocks” that combines modern trap production with lyrical prowess, which can really only be found in a handful of drill artists such as Lil Herb, Lil Bibby, and Montana of 300. The difference between them though, is in the appeal. Brewski, as well as Lonny, have that quick-witted, well-educated swag that makes artists like Childish Gambino, Chance the Rapper, and Tyler, the Creator so appealing to broader audiences. While Bibby and Herb have that street narrative that some purists crave, Brewski and Lonny are marketable in a way that they are not, and unfortunately, that’s the difference between breaking down doors and being locked behind them.
