The feeling of finding something you didn’t know you were looking for is an unexplainable thing. Every so often, if you put in enough effort sifting through the ever ending sea of new music on the internet, you find that something in a new artist or song.
This morning, I found that something in a 19 year old artist from Las Vegas who goes by the name Shamir. The young singer/rapper/whatever you want to call him just inked a deal with U.K. label XL Recordings and in celebration, released a brand new video and track, “On The Regular.”
The video is as playful as it is colorful, as is the track. Filled with quick, fun rhymes reminiscent of De La Soul, “On The Regular” is just the party anthem to announce Shamir’s new deal.
After hearing and watching “On The Regular”, I quickly became interested in hearing more of Shamir’s music. His Northtown EP, which dropped in June of this year, is quite different to the single but still holds in it the same playfulness that “On The Regular.”
