By now it’s no secret that soul is creeping back into popular music. Whether it’s Kendrick Lamar deferring to James Brown aesthetics, Eryn Allen Kane and Lili K stepping out or Chance The Rapper blending genres at a fever pace, it’s obvious that the music we’ll be hearing for some time will be paced by the emotion that comes along with it. It’s with that in mind that we are premiering a new one from New Yorker Pete Ayres, who drops off his second single, “Such A Good Feeling” from his upcoming full-length Till I See You. While soul seems to be sifting into all areas of music today, here it finds a mellow tone and Ayres, a St. Louis native who will be playing in Chicago before the end of the summer, falls into line brilliantly here. Staying in his own lane, the frontman steers the ship throughout, taking things to highs and lows within his own equilibrium throughout while staying wholly in tune with previous releases. As music continues to evolve and grow it appears to simultaneously look backwards as well for inspiration and with “Such A Good Feeling” we get a welcome sense of that growth from an act that seems to be bringing it all together.
