Nick Bowens is a young artist from the Houston, Texas area, who moves quiet, with composure, keeps to himself, yet speaks volumes with his work. The songwriter and rapper is unapologetically himself, not speaking one line to keep up any status quo or trend. He writes what is on his mind and heart, and his lyricism and delivery are always molding and adapting to accurately portray his real-world experiences and current environment.
His natural ability is apparent and since 2017 he has released a handful of singles as well as two EP’s. He continues to gain awareness and introduce different aspects of himself to the world through music. Last night at midnight Bowens released, “The Man,” a testimony to his evolution as a human in this world. I spoke with Nick about the track and his words spoke volumes. He stated, “This song is about my evolution as a man. In my eyes, there are only three ways to go. You either progress, regress, or stay stagnant. The lyric “reflect on myself and that shit I’m attracting” sums up the whole song. I’ve come to the realization that my outcome will depend on my input. Growth requires sacrifice.”
The Man is a wonderful hard-hitting yet soulful track, filled with addictive samples and honest emotion. If you’re looking for a deep and introspective artist, this Texas native is for you.
