“Can you fathom why?”
Yes, you can, because Monte Booker is an exceptionally talented 20 year old producer, who has already created a sound of his own. Today Soulection White Label released his latest work, in the form of a four track EP. Monte’s music is full & intricate, often with an uptempo bouncy feel which is immediately recognizable in the opening track, “Flight.” It is rare for a producer of his age to have such a distinctive sound. “Homealone” further demonstrates Monte’s artistry and the unpredictable sounds and directions in which he moves. He brings the best out of the artists that he produces for – here he features two vocalists from the ZeroFatigue, ClassickFam collective, Smino and Ravyn Lenae. We hear a particularly soulful Ravyn on “Baby,” the song’s guitar driven beat creates a beautiful atmosphere for the 16 year old songstress. If you don’t know about Smino yet, “Kolors,” will wake you. I had the pleasure of seeing Monte, Ravyn and Smino perform at The Emporium, they are as good live as on record. Something is happening here with this group of musicians, and Soulection, as usual, is on it. Monte Booker has come on so strong this year, you owe it to yourself to listen to this EP.
