The dirtiest killer in the game, king of the underground, and voice straight from the gutter LIL UGLY MANE has come out of retirement to bless us mortals with his newest album Oblivion Access. Are we worthy? Not even close, but I’m not going to pass up on an opportunity to hear one of the greatest artists in our generation spit over so beats so buried in mud, you can’t even imagine anyone else rapping over them. LIL UGLY MANE is one of the best things to happen to rap and his presence is one akin to a mythical creature. His lack of social media presence, refusal to play standard shows and total disregard of any guidelines the “industry” has told us to follow makes him a courageous force in the rap game. He does what he wants when he wants to and has created some of the most musical albums in rap history. I put Mista Thug Isolation as one of the top 5 greatest rap albums of all time (in my humble opinion) and Oblivion Access is not far behind. LIL UGLY MANE’s determination to irk you just a little bit with white noise or sounds pitched a little too high and his ability to maneuver wordplay into riddles that take you multiple listens to decipher; or the way he intentionally pitches his voice to grab you by your gut and entrance you through the whole experience, marks him as a mind in a field of its own. He’s not afraid to take leaps or afraid to make you question his decision making. LIL UGLY MANE is confident in his decisions, as he should be, and delivers yet another endeavor that deserves the attention of any music listener/maker that takes this seriously. Oblivion Access is a monster of an album and I recommend it to anyone trying to take their music to a higher level.
The 2nd verse in “COLLAPSE AND APPEAR” is one of the greatest verses I’ve ever heard.
