Dear Lizzy,
If a someone doesn’t like Mariah Carey does a romantic relationship with them have any chance?
-Emma
Emma,
This is a great question. I am so glad that you came to me with important “dealbreakers” such as this one. The one who doesn’t like Mariah Carey. I actually scoff at people that don’t enjoy Mariah Carey. Fantasy is an amazing song. Butterfly era. Mariah Carey’s drink (also titled “Butterfly”). I feel that Mariah is such an important person in my life that it almost seems like a dealbreaker – but it isn’t. I feel that true relationship advice would be that, if anything, you need to find a common ground with this ‘someone’, perhaps another musician. Also, think about it as a gift for yourself, and yourself only: You can listen to Mariah alone, in your jammies, being yourself. I think Mariah wanted it this way. Don’t worry. This someone isn’t a “Heartbreaker” (heh)! You can find common ground with another beautiful, talented diva with this someone. However, make it a point to drag them in the dirt a bit for their displeasure for the Queen.
Suggestion for a date would be to display the MTV Cribs: Mariah Carey episode to your special someone. Maybe then, they’ll “get it”.
Trust in Lizzy, she’s been through it before. I live with two people that loathe Mariah Carey. For more tips and advice, e-mail liz@spf420.com
