One year ago, Chemise Cagoule – a previously anonymous act that breathed washed-out coos over lo-fi beats – was revealed to be controversial underground artist Jack Collier. Violet, Chemise Cagoule’s first single, was simultaneously released. Director Ryan Nanni slept with the dreamy track during the passing year, and now, after filming that lasted months and included shooting at a sex club, on tour, under frigid waters and through the frozen Indiana Dunes, Chemise Cagoule is pleased to release Violet’s music video.
Nanni’s vision is one that obsesses with the sex that seems to throb underneath most of Collier’s work, but it’s a vision that also recognizes the doses of glamour and grit that alchemize to form Chemise Cagoule. Also starring underground artists Jazzeppi Zanaughtti and Ben Morino, the video, through Nanni’s eyes, never betrays the original mystery of the song. We may be no closer to knowing who or what “Violet” is, but it’s clear that there’s more to hear from the rising underground pop sensation that is Chemise Cagoule.
