Abhi/Dijon may not be artists you rush to the computer for when you hear they have new music out, but personally, I don’t see why that is. The soulful RnB duo have now released two projects and both contain plenty of good tunes. In STAY UP, the groups most recent release which came out earlier today, the group gets a bit more rhythmic then they’ve been before. Dance inspired jazz melodies dominate the 11 track project while AD’s signature silky sound rings clear throughout the whole tape. A few of my early favorites are “ESPN”, which details the duo’s plan to hang out with girls on a weekend night. A smashing guitar lick rings in the soundscape behind Dijon’s vocals, which strike the listeners ears in a very seductive way. Other favorites include the perfect strolling track “3 AM” as well as the more thugged-out “Werk”. The whole project has an amazing vibe to it and as I think about it more, these guys are making the music I wish superstar Miguel would make more often (no diss). A collaboration between the two would be killer, right? Regardless, props to both Abhi and Dijon. This project is definitely going in my regular rotation.
