“I want to make you think
I want to make you question yourself”
British artist Abel Gray began work on a musical trilogy, Outsider On The Inside, about a year ago and just released the final installment, the compelling Volume 3. Gray is an extremely talented artist, both with music and illustration. His Vol. 3 is energized and not categorizable by genre, there is hip hop, rock and jazz, his sound is forward thinking and fascinating – Abel’s lyrical content also matches that description. Get to know him a bit through his recent interview with Ben at Mishka. On the five track EP, Gray sings and raps over beats that he made himself employing live instrumentation as well as samples, of course he made the cover as well.
I first heard of the multi-faceted talent as a visual artist via the affecting cover art he has created for Hurt Everybody, Alex Wiley, Beach Jesus, Noah Sims and more. His artwork is fairly iconic if you’re a fan of underground Chicago hip hop, I can’t listen to Hurt Everybody’s 2K47 project without picturing images by Abel Gray. His art makes a lasting impression. With Outsider On The Inside Volume 3, his music has that same effect. Listen to his Outsider trilogy, start now with Vol. 3, he’s made an EP of memorable & impactful music.
