Begging to get you back, like a Jodeci record.
Sunniē Storm has just finished her debut project Heliocentric and “Jodeci Record” is her first single. She told me that the track “focuses on the one that got away. It’s a song that flips the script on male and female relationships. The woman messes up thinking she’d be better off by herself when in actuality her life is better when she’s with him.” The hazy and keyboard rich beat is by FRVRMDNGHT, Brand Nu features and he comes in singing “I can’t see you alone, you’ve got me dreaming.” The soulful and dreamy “Jodeci Record” highlights Sunniē’s singing ability and she’s got bars. I first heard her thanks to a ‘Go iLL post of her last release “Fiyah” on a Noah Sims beat. She has been featured in Red Eye Chicago and she even took a few minutes for an impromptu interview with me this morning before running to class.
he·li·o·cen·tric
adjective
having or representing the sun as the center, as in the accepted astronomical model of the solar system.
What does Heliocentric mean to you?
For me, Heliocentric means to love yourself, to be the master of your own fate and to recognize that inner light that exists within yourself that makes you great.
How long have you been making music?
I’ve been writing lyrics since I was twelve but I didn’t start really writing and recording music until I was eighteen.
Any particular writing process?
My writing style consists of me being in a dimly lit room, a little red wine and a little smooth jazz lol; I’m just joking. I really don’t have a writing style. I usually just listen to the beat and allow it to navigate my very unnecessarily complex mind.
Musical background? Any musicians in the family?
I really don’t have any musical background. I played the triangle in Kindergarten but that’s about it. (laughs) No musicians in my family; I was the only one blessed with such unbelievable musical talent. (laughs)
Where do you record?
I record at Classick Studios with one of the best engineers in the city of Chicago Darwin Derequito. It’s a great place to record; it has a lot of good vibes.
Can you tell me a little about the artists featured on “Jodeci Record?”
It features Brand’Nu who’s a very talented upcoming singer/songwriter. We actually went to high school together and never really hung out but somehow music brought us together and allowed us to make a very nice record. The song is produced by FRVRMDNGHT who’s a very unbelievable producer with a very unique sound. I see great things to come for these creative in the future. Be on the look out!
Who are you listening to right now?
Right now I’m listening to my musical soul mates J.Cole and Kendrick Lamar. They both created very introspective and culture changing albums this year.
Anybody you’d like to mention?
Shout out to Darwin at Classick Studios, Brand’Nu, FRVRMDNGHT, Matt Whise , Freaky Dray and basically the entire Ace League, Hakeem Raahil, Two Letterz, Mic Taylor, Brent Butcher, Donda’s House and all the people out there supporting me.
