“I spazz on tracks like terets, paint a picture Picasso, I swear my mind is colossal”.
The beginning track “Genesis” establishes that we are in a world both divine and hideous, regardless though we do belong to something bigger; the track then turns into some mechanical sounding drum filter that makes me think of pipes reverberating, we are suddenly in the midst of the Rap/Hip Hop complex. Artist MWII does a great job of creating an off kilter album that plays off normalcies by putting his own twist to it, such as the subsequent track “In Lust” which some rappers may have called “In Love” but MWII sees that these bitches “cum & go” and has enough presence of mind to understand that even though he has strong feelings of attraction, to call it “Love” would be short sighted and foolish.
MWII impressively produced most of the album and as a result naturally has a very cohesive project that flips industry standards on their heads, the beats are bass heavy and full of energy like that of a mainstream producer such as a Mike Will Made It, but has the powerful synths of say a Noah “40” Shebib. “On My Life Pt. 2” is as good an example as any of these satirical elements, where the trap influenced gun sounds you hear throughout the track which normally would indicate that the rapper spitting is about that “life” MWII is indicating how these same things endanger his life and how it influences the youth who are so easily impressed. “On My Life Pt.1” is an anthemic track where the synths are particularly heroic, the ad libs in the background echo those of a Chief Keef, whether he’s reappropriated this trap sound that has sneakily become the new signature “Rap” sound or is simply influenced by it, MWII uses the trap aesthetic and makes it his own in a refreshingly original way that really makes the tape worth checking out.
