Maryland’s Jay IDK is selling more than bricks and bass with his new single “God Said Trap,” premiered via Mass Appeal. Rapping as his drug-pushing, money-chasing alter-ego King Trappy III, Jay IDK paints a bleak picture of avarice and excess as he moves from pushing weed to selling cocaine. On the track, Jay proclaims”Goddammit this life,” only to turn around and say “I can’t stop until I get what I want.” It’s a push pull that too many are familiar with; disenfranchised with their jobs and with the world, but at the same time reaching for an object or form of social status which is promised to bring happiness.
Jay IDK also told Mass Appeal this track is a “a conscious trap song,” telling a story from start to finish instead of spitting random lines over a beat. “God Said Trap” will appear on Jay’s forthcoming album Subtrap. Other characters and personas of Jay’s psyche will pop up across the album as well, so pay close attention. This single shows a lot of promise for the upcoming release.
