What is the importance of space exploration in our society?
NASA is my Google Chrome homepage. I heard that people are volunteering to visit Mars and never return. We will unfortunately be off this beautiful planet in the future. Wall-E never told a lie.
What defines consciousness? Do you think other animals can be considered conscious creatures?
Being awake and aware. I would argue that some animals are more conscious than humans. If a dolphin (or narwhal or adventurous turtle) can ride ocean waves and have sex for pleasure, then they are probably doing it more properly than, say, an Olive Garden waiter going through drive-thru monotony and/or a woman-slandering hilljack on a soapbox protesting outside of a music festival.
How do you create meaningful experiences in your life?
Enjoying the present while also planning for future hijinks. Do what you love and do it often. For me, that’s writing, taking pictures, eating Laffy Taffy, hunting for waterfalls, and listening to Moby. Bored and need to get away? Save money and book a flight to Morocco. This is recycled wisdom, but I’ve always enjoyed the phrase “The more I see, the less I know.”
Like Sartre, do you consider contemplation a luxury?
Haha, I love these questions. Sure, I’d consider it a luxury, but like any pleasure/privilege, it should be handled in moderation. Don’t dwell too hard. Just how having a stretch limo for a decade would make you less appreciative of said limo, so too would spending too much time thinking lead to less enjoyment of the physical realm. Think about stuff, but also do stuff.
Riff Raff is a tangible example of increased absurdity (aka entropy) in the universe, can you name other examples?
Gucci Mane’s discography, SkyMall going bankrupt, that lady that got DRAKE tattooed on her face, a seventh Fast and the Furious film, Starbursts unwrapped minis, Chris Pratt chasing dinosaurs, and Jay Electronica’s calendar.
Are you afraid that everything will happen?
It already has and it will again.
How do you make earnest connection in a world of instant gratification?
Meet in public, shake hands, pass the dutchie to the left hand side, call your mother. Airplane Mode is your best friend. Give more love than you receive. Make more love than you thought possible. Sing in the shower and buy yourself a piñata after a hard day’s work.
