“Come away when the lights go down and I’ll take you through the window where you lie,” beckons Chemise Cagoule singer Jack Collier, and with that invitation, he shows us where he left his signature dream-pop sound: out in the sun to fade.
There, he’s joined by guest vocalist Khallee, another Chicago-underground native, who recently released the explosive “Crying Diamonds” EP. With drowning harmonies and distant-yet-intimate confessions, Chemise Cagoule and Khallee paint a bittersweet picture, one that glows with the naivety of a past summer’s fling but hides an ominous inscription behind its soaring instrumental chorus:
“You said you’d leave this town and you’d take me/You said we’d make it out or we’re both dead.”
“Humble Boy Erotica” is Chemise Cagoule’s third release and follows his acclaimed first singles, the dreamy “Violet” and her nightmarish sister, “Violet Pt. II.”
