Music can send you down a trip on memory lane, it’ll make you remember a loved one or a fun time in your life or maybe even that one night with that special someone… you know what i’m talking about. We at 1833 are no different and want to celebrate the past with our weekly segment THROWBACK THURSDAY’S; check below to see what era our contributors are stuck in this week and come back every thursday to find out what songs you forgot you missed.
Alexy:
At the beginning of the video 50 and his friend with very, very baggy pants are arguing with a frenchman over what shoes are, then two beautiful women who speak French show up and the narrative begins, it was a simpler time then.
Zach:
Many people consider Beethoven’s 8th symphony to be his most “punk”. Premiering over 200 years ago in Vienna, The Atlantic Magazine calls it “bonkers, mad, brave, cheekily pugnacious, punchy, and akin to what Lear’s Fool, Samuel Beckett, and a young Mozart might have come up with if those three ever got together to have a musical bash.”
Mama Sims:
“You feel so familiar
Can’t quite put a finger
Last time that I saw you
Looked like from a mirror”
The mysterious and sizzling song “Helen Keller” has haunted me for months, Chicago’s Drea Smith questions the times when “they’re not seeing you, they’re not hearing you.” Listen and support you local vibe dealer, she’s got more coming soon.
(Editors note: I enjoy that the first sound cloud comment on this is someone saying “good loud hmu” then listing their number).
Martin:
Sauce Walka has been compared to a modern day William Shakespeare by many of today’s influential literary tastemakers with his dramatic landscapes and clever puns all leading to his beneficial use of the sauce. “Call me double 0-saucy bitch I’m James Pourin”. Walka has used every tool in the English language arsenal to apprise an audience of loyal fanatics on lean culture, Houston, and sauce. If you ain’t got no sauce then you’re lost, but you can also get lost in the sauce.
Donshining:
This band can really bring your mood up instantly. With a hybrid of a live band and hip-hop production, Kenny Vasoli insists that you pursue good vibes in everything you do and it shows through his music.
Juttin:
Noel Gallagher might be the biggest music douche alive, but god damn if Oasis didn’t have a great run. People often think of “Wonderwall” or “Champagne Supernova” as their biggest, or best, songs but I respectfully disagree. “Don’t Look Back In Anger” came on while my phone was on shuffle earlier today as I was getting into the Hamptons where my family and I are attending a wedding and it felt so perfect. A perfect cheer up song that doesn’t make you feel too guilty for feeling down. Gotta love it.
“Please don’t put your life in the hands
Of a Rock n Roll band
Who’ll throw it all away”
Ironic lyrics for a band that virtually self-destructed.
