Freddie Old Soul, J Bambii, Brittney, EssieL, Syd Shaw, and Bella Bahhs set Chicago ablaze with their cypher, “Set It Off.” Lisa Decibel spun the “Survival of the Fittest” beat and the women absolutely went in. The cypher was filmed by Yakub Films at Young Chicago Authors. If you’ve ever wondered about “life for a black girl in Chicago,” allow these women to inform you through their powerful rhymes, intense delivery and vision. This is something I’ve been waiting for and didn’t even know it, hopefully this is the first in a series of many. Each one of these unique voices stands on her own but together they create an undeniable force, these women are the truth.
