Ravyn Lenae has released her highly anticipated and beautiful debut Moon Shoes. The journey begins with “Venezuela Trains” and the first words you’ll hear are “Please hold on, this train is departing.” The sixteen year old singer has launched what promises to be an exciting trip. The project is eight songs in length, Monte Booker, another extremely talented young Chicagoan, produced six of them. These two have established a style – it’s percussive and bright with Ravyn’s voice adding perfect sweetness and delicacy to the sound. In the title track “Moon Shoes,” produced by Keyzus, she sings purely, “I think this is happy, I think this is sad. I think this is laughing, I think this is glad.” Appleby features on the playful “Free Room,” and it shows a fun, R&B side to his artistry. “Sleep Talking” is an early favorite of mine. Ravyn’s first single “Greetings” produced by Oz sounds new again in this context. Moon Shoes was recorded at Classick Studios and mixed by Bryan “Kawaakari” Schwaller. The project is ambitious and hits the mark. While there are moments of poignancy throughout, Moon Shoes will make you feel good, it’s joyful. Ravyn’s voice dances and floats, it’ll be fun to watch her continue to grow.
“Mark my words
I hope you understand
If I had my way
You’d be my major plan”
