True story: two years ago, I was at Bonnaroo Arts and Music Festival walking back to my campsite after a LONG day of music. As I was about to leave the music part of the festival, I heard loud Arabian horns and synths coming from a stage close by. It was almost like I was being hypnotized to walk over and see what was going on. When I got there, I saw a VERY eclectic crowd of people absolutely losing it to this man, Omar Souleyman, a Syrian pop star that has gained a large following in the indie electronic community. Souleyman sings about love, loss and his passion for his homeland.
In “Bahdeni Nami”, Souleyman teamed up with producer Four Tet to create another mesmerizing ballad with a video set in Turkey. I’ll tell you now, this music isn’t for everyone, but if you’re a fan of world music this is just for you.
