Eryn Allen Kane released Aviary: Act 1 via Spin. It’s an EP that she describes as “the appetizer… The main course will arrive in January 2016.” All four of the beautiful songs on her project resonate with inspiration and spirit. Three of the songs have been previously released as singles, the most recent, “Piano Song,” was first heard on BET’s Being Mary Jane. “Bass Song” is brand new and begins the listening experience. The EP is soulful, the layers of sound are rich and her attention to detail is impressive. Some of the musicians that Eryn collaborated with for Aviary: Part 1 include Macie Stewart on piano, bassist Lane Beckstrom, guitarist Liam Kazar, Will Miller on horns and drummer Peter Manheim. It was engineered & mixed by Matt Hennessy of VSOP Productions. The striking photography for the cover is by Bryan Allen Lamb.
It comes as no surprise that she is having a big year having already worked with Chance & Saba, one of the highlights was “Baltimore,” her collaboration with Prince that resulted in her performing with him at the Peace Rally in Baltimore, read about that in Essence Magazine. Look for Eryn in Spike Lee’s upcoming film, Chi-raq. I get the feeling we’ll be talking about this talented young woman even more next year.
