Dylan Brady proves once again that he is a god among mortals with the impact of his debut #POP EP, Cake Pop. I’ve had this short project sitting in my dropbox for 2 or 3 days, and I don’t know if anyone has a clue as to how hard it was for me not to talk about it to everyone. I am an avid fan of pop music – my grade school obsession with Britney Spears was probably borderline psychotic, and I still have Gwen Stefani, 98 Degrees, and Avril Lavigne on my iPod. A part of me believes that Dylan has such an understanding of music, and genres in general, that when he stepped out of what his fans might believe is “his lane”, he still knew exactly what he was doing (hence, maybe the name, Cake Pop). Featured on the project are collaborators that Dylan has chosen with the utmost faith over the past year: Lewis Grant, Night Lovell, Robel Ketema, and Adam Newcomer. Robel’s addition to Do You Think I’m Mean is a hallmark contribution to the entire project, and Night’s cryptic and haunting bars compliment the fun and bouncy production surprisingly well. I’ve been asking Dylan persistently over the past few days for more details on CAKE POP and he was able to feed me a few mysterious answers. One that stood out was:
Cake Pop is just a collection of pop songs I made in my mom’s basement one week when she was in Florida. Lol
Pretty accurate description. DB has shown to be an overall creative mastermind, and CAKE POP is nothing short of a magnum opus. I’m anxious to see where this goes, and what music videos we might expect from the project.
