“I think we fell in love on the dance floor”
This Time Last Year – the Chicago quartet Beach Jesus had just begun working together. They’ve travelled quite a distance in that short time and with the TTLY EP have released some of their best music yet. They describe the project as “12.5 minutes of mayhem,” and they do go crazy on the six track release. Vocalists Chando and Jommis are creative lyricists with open hearts and some playfulness, illustrated with lyrics like “high cheekbones with her high self esteem,” count on them to consistently inject feeling and passion into their performances. The bold, original production is by Jaro and SEER with an assist from Elias Abid & lasko for “Aloe BB,” the only previously released single and a personal fav of mine. The evocative artwork is by Chris Orta and the project was mixed and mastered by Michael Kolar at Soundscape Studios.
