Self described as “a homage to women in musical form”, Closed Sessions’ BoatHouse just laced us with his new Girl EP. You may recognize the former Soundscape intern turned artist’s name for his production credits on tracks with Allan Kingdom, Yung Simmie, and Lucki Eck$. Regardless, his solo work should stand alone in its greatness.
The 7 track EP features a plethora of different types of reworks, sample-based joints, and completely self-created numbers all revolving around the idea of women influencing BoatHouse’s music making. The first track, “Blaire”, is described as a morning-time track that is light and best served with a glass of OJ. As the EP sails on, “Taylor” could be described as a great song to put on your headphones for your first step out your front door to begin your day. With a swinging, house-like beat, “Taylor” really gets the groove going.
Then there’s “Cassie”, which is a rework of the popular Cassie song “Me & U” from 2006. This is definitely my favorite track on the EP, as it throws out the throwback classic in a very BoatHouse specific way. The EP concludes with “Eve”, which is described as a day ending, nighttime track. It’s slow tempo and choir-like vocals are perfect for enjoying a quick spliff right before bedtime.
You’d be a true scrooge to not find at least one track on Girl that fits your musical style. It’s eclectic nature allows for all types of music listeners to find something that gets their head nodding. You should probably jump on the BoatHouse fanwagon now if you haven’t already, or you might be the guy at the butt-end of the “you don’t know about BoatHouse?!” exchange real soon.
